When Mariana married Julián, she believed she was building a life, not assembling a trap.

They also got the fake travel documents waiting in Guadalajara and the proof that Claudia had been prepared to move a child before his mother was even cold.
Months later, when the court case finally ended, the judge called it what it was: an attempted killing dressed up as an accident, followed by a property theft disguised as family concern. Julián lost access to the house, the accounts, and Mateo. Claudia lost the right to pretend she had merely stood nearby.
Mariana survived long enough to testify.
Recovery was not elegant. It came in slow steps, with weak legs, shaking hands, and bad dreams that left her sweating at dawn. Mateo never stopped taking her hand before he slept. Valeria never stopped bringing folders full of paper that turned lies into something police could hold.
The house in Metepec remained hers.
