The phone rang again. His lawyer, then his bank, then his insurance provider. Each call delivered another blow—frozen accounts, defaulted loans, eviction notices, canceled credit cards. His entire financial life was disintegrating before his eyes.
Bianca began to cry quietly, finally realizing she’d attached herself to a sinking wreck.
Julian made a call of his own. “Father, it’s time.”
“Yes,” came the reply. “Proceed with everything.”
He ended the call and smiled—a smile devoid of mercy. “In thirty minutes,” Julian said, “everything you believe defines you will be gone, and you will sit here and watch.”
The bedroom door opened. Grace stepped out. Daniel barely recognized her. She wore a tailored navy dress and heels. Her hair flowed freely, styled with care. Makeup highlighted her features.
But it wasn’t the appearance that stunned him. It was her posture. She stood taller, stronger—like someone reclaiming herself.
Behind her, three sharply dressed individuals entered through the front door, briefcases bearing the gold-embossed Gideon Group logo. Grace passed Daniel without a glance and stood beside her brother.
“Hello, Daniel,” she said calmly. “We need to talk now.”
One of the lawyers spread documents across the dining table. Words leapt out at Daniel—divorce, eviction, asset seizure.
Julian draped a protective arm around his sister. “You wanted to parade your mistress through my sister’s home?” he said quietly. “Humiliate her? Strike her under her own roof?”
He leaned in, voice deadly low. “This is what happens when you disrespect a Gideon woman.”
The lead attorney, a silver-haired woman with razor-sharp eyes, adjusted her glasses. Her nameplate read: Victoria Chen, Senior Partner, Chen & Associates.
“Mr. Thompson,” she said coolly, “there are several legal matters to address.”
Daniel remained frozen, watching his life be reduced to paperwork. Bianca stood silent against the wall, stripped of all confidence.
“First, the property,” Victoria said, sliding a document toward him. “This residence at 247 Maple Ridge Drive is solely owned by Grace Gideon Thompson. The deed, mortgage, and title list only her. You are recorded merely as a resident spouse.”
“That’s impossible,” Daniel rasped. “I’ve been paying the mortgage.”
“You’ve been depositing funds into an account managed by Mrs. Gideon Thompson,” Victoria corrected, “an account funded primarily by her salary from Gideon Holdings, where she has served as a senior financial consultant for seven years—earning approximately two hundred fifty thousand dollars annually.”
The number crushed him.
“Second,” Victoria continued, “your company, Thompson & Associates Construction, received an initial five-hundred-thousand-dollar investment from Meridian Capital Group, a Gideon Holdings subsidiary. The agreement granted Gideon Holdings seventy-eight percent ownership in exchange for capital and continued support.”
“I never signed anything like that,” Daniel protested weakly.
Victoria slid another document across the table. “Your signature, Mr. Thompson. Page fourteen, paragraph seven. According to my client’s testimony, you signed without reading because you were too eager to get the money.”
Grace finally spoke, her tone quiet but unyielding. “It was in my father’s office. I was there. You were desperate. I told you to read it, and you said, ‘Baby, I trust you. Let’s just get this done.’”
Daniel’s memory flickered. He remembered the massive office, the intimidating suits, the crushing need to leave with the check. He had wanted out as fast as possible.
“The loan is being called,” Victoria continued. “You have forty-eight hours to repay the full amount plus interest—five hundred seventy-three thousand dollars—or Gideon Holdings will seize all company assets and dissolve Thompson & Associates.”
“I don’t have that kind of money,” Daniel’s voice broke.
“We know,” Julian said coolly. “That’s the point.”
Victoria moved on. “Your vehicles—the BMW you drove today and the Mercedes in the garage—are registered to Grace Gideon Thompson, purchased with her funds and titled in her name.”
