But Teresa nodded, gently stroking the girl’s back.
That was it.
And Rodrigo realized: it was something he had never done before.
The briefcase fell to the ground.
The noise destroyed everything.
The two children turned around.
Her eyes did not reflect joy.
They reflected fear.
“Dad…”

Sofia immediately hid behind Teresa, clinging to her tightly.
At that moment, Rodrigo felt his world crumble.
He turned around and left without saying a word.
He closed the door in his office.
And for the first time in more than three years…
Cry.
They were not silent tears.
But it was the sob of a man who had just realized that everything he had built… could not replace a hug.
Twenty-five minutes passed.
They knocked softly on the door.
Teresa was there, with a cup of tea in her hand.
“Sir… the children are asleep.”
Rodrigo looked up, his eyes red and swollen.
“How long have you been listening to them…?”
“Since my second month here.”
“Because?”
Teresa looked at him in a calm voice:
“Because I couldn’t bear to see the children alone in such a big house.”
They talked for a long time that night.
The following morning, for the first time in eleven years, Rodrigo cancelled a meeting.
He entered the game room, without a suit, without a phone.
Just one father.
The two children looked at him as if he were a stranger.
“Dad… are you going to play with us?”
Rodrigo sat uncomfortably.
—Uh… but I don’t know how to play… will you teach me?
Sofia laughed and put a pink plastic crown on her head.
And in that laughter, something began to change.
Slowly.
Painfully.
But really.
“I miss your mother too… every day…” “I’m sorry… for leaving you alone…”
The two children burst into tears and ran to hug him.
And this time, Rodrigo didn’t rush.
He returned their hug.
With force.
Time passed, the house changed. The rules disappeared. Laughter returned. Rodrigo learned to cook, he learned to listen, he learned to stay.
He lost some contracts.
He lost some partners.
But he found what mattered most.

A year later, in that same room, he said to Teresa:
—Thank you… for saving my family.
Teresa smiled, shaking her head:
“No, sir…”
“You were saved… the day you sat down to listen.”
The house was no longer a cold fortress.
It was a home.
And Rodrigo finally understood:
True power does not lie in controlling everything.
But in having the courage to change… when love is right in front of you.
